On August 7th, 2018, the City of DeWitt held a special election and passed a $3.5 million dollar bond referendum with 82% favorable vote for the project. In fall of 2018, the library board continues their fundraising efforts to reach the last $2.2 million needed to complete the project.
On May 20th, 2019, the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction. Phase 1 of the project (building the new addition) is projected to be completed by February 2020. Once Phase 1 is complete, the library will move into the new addition so Phase 2 (the renovation of the existing library) can begin. A grand opening of the new library is projected to take place July/August of 2020.
